The brown recluse is the most venomous spider in North America. Its venom can cause nausea, fever, rashes and vomiting, as well as necrosis of the skin tissue near the bite. Young children and the elderly are most susceptible to the venom, which can cause death.

The black widow is second to the brown recluse on North America's list of deadliest spiders. Its bite is typically not fatal, but can cause minor to sever muscle cramps, abdominal and pain, nausea, vomiting, and respiratory problems.

The brown widow's venom is every bit as toxic as its cousin the black widow, but cannot deliver as much, and so its bite is less potent.

The hobo spider's venom is similar to the brown recluse in that it can cause necrotic lesions near the bite, though it is not as toxic.

The wolf spider's bite is relatively mild compared to most of the others on this list. Its venom typically cause swelling, mild pain and itching.

The Brazilian wandering spider is considered the world's most venomous species. Its neurotoxic venom causes loss of muscle control, leading to paralysis and eventual asphyxiation. If that isn't enough, the venom excites pain receptors, causing extreme physical discomfort. These spiders have been known to stowaway with banana shipments to the U.S.
